FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FAQ'S
How do I book a shoot?
Head to the contact page and fill in the form and I will be in touch within 48 hours.
Alternatively, email me directly at caitlinmcmahon@hotmail.com I can't wait to hear from you!
When should I book?
Ideally 3 months prior for family or extended family shoots to ensure I can fit you in. The earlier the better especially if you need a weekend date.
If you are pregnant, booking your maternity session once you enter your second trimester is best.
I suggest shooting between 32-36 weeks. Most women are more comfortable before they reach full term and this gives us the chance to reschedule if we need to due to Auckland weather.
If you are looking to book in your Newborn shoot, I recommend shooting between 10-14 days. Get in touch during your second trimester.
What happens next?
Once we decide on a date, I will send you a portrait contract and a 20% non-refundable deposit. This deposit holds the date for your session. You have 48 hours to make payment. Only once you have signed the contract and paid the deposit is your booking secure. I will send you styling advice, a link to images of my client wardrobe that you are welcome to borrow for your shoot and a list of locations to choose from if we are shooting outdoors. From there, I will be in touch the week prior as a reminder and with a location meeting point. Then we make magic!
I've never had professional portraits taken, I'm nervous and I'm worried my kids won't behave.
Firstly, I am so glad you have decided to invest in capturing these memories for you and your family. Don't be nervous! I will give you all the guidance and direction you need. Family photos are not overly posed. We aim to capture one shot of everyone looking at camera smiling and then we let the chaos unfold. I want to capture those little quirks and the sassy personality of your threenager. That's who they truly are and that's how you want to remember them. Plus, I have my own feral children and I'm use to it!
Maternity photos however - I will pose you, I will make you look like a real life Godess. You are creating life and we are going to capture that magic!
What time will my shoot be?
Outdoor shoots are captured one hour before sunset for the best light. This changes depending on the time of year.
In-home shoots and newborn sessions are usually done mid-morning around 10.30 am.
Should we bring anything?
If someone in your family plays guitar, bring it along! If we have a beach session and the kids love boogie boarding or Mum or Dad is an amerture pro surfer, bring your board! If you have a really cool picnic blanket that you swoon over then sure!
You are welcome to bring those things but you don't NEED anything. I'm capturing connection and all I need for that is you.
If i think the weather is going to interfere with our session, I will be in touch by midday on the day of our shoot to offer a reschedule date.
Reschedules on the clients behalf for any other reason incur a $50 reschedule fee.
Will you post my images online?
Please read my contract carefully. It states that I have the right to post your images online and they can be used on my website for personal marketing purposes, unless specified otherwise. So all you have to do is email me and say "Hey, we are private people and we would prefer to keep our images offline" and I will reply with "I totally respect that, these images are for your eyes only"
What if it rains?
It is a privilege to be able to share my client's images online. I am so appreciative, as sharing my work is what grows my business.
How long does it take to receive my gallery?
I have a turn around time of 3 weeks from the date of our shoot. If our shoot falls on a weekend, please allow to the following Monday to receive your gallery. You will then have 3 days to make your selects or choose to upgrade to more imagery of the full gallery.
Do you travel?
Yes, I am happy to travel for our session. Locations outside of a 25km radius from my home in west Auckland will incur a travel fee. Domestic and International travel may also require accommodation and allowances.
